In what is surely manager Batigol's most successful season in football management, AS Roma have sucessfully completed a cup double, following up their CT trophy success earlier in the month, AS Roma, today, completed a DC Cup triumph over Manchester City.
After a tense first leg that was only settled by a single Petr Trowchowski goal, Roma provided their fans with arguably their best performance of the season to seal the trophy.
Unrivalled talisman, Francesco Totti beat Pepe Reina one on one to open the scoring a get a crucial away goal after just 7 minutes. Although Podolski equalised just 10 minutes later for City, Roma were not to be denied.
A little more than 5 minutes before the break, Totti once again found himself in the exact same position as he had been after just 7 minutes, this time, opting to power the ball past Reina to make it 2-1 and 3-1 on aggregate.
Not to be outshone by his strike partner, Alberto Gilardino scored a terrific volley on 55 minutes to put the tie beyond doubt.
Batigol has galvanised his group of rejected and transfer listed players, and not only made them safe, dining once again at football's top table, but he has brought them two of football's most prestigious trophies.
It's a sensational story, and it could still get better, just 3 days after their triumph, Gilardino/Totti were at it again, beating Chelsea 3-1 in Rome to go 4 oints clear at the top of Division One.
Are these ragtag bunch of Roman gladiators about to complete a fairytale?
